THE CASTLE: LOCATION & HISTORY
The castle is located on two small islands in a lake and was first built, in some form, during the 9th Century. In the 13th Century it was owned by King Edward I, and in the 16th century Henry VIII used it as a home for his 1st wife, Catherine of Aragon. The castle has seen many changes through the centuries until it was left in-trust to open it to the public following the death of the then current owner.

THE DRAWING: Artist’s Note
For a castle described as being the most beautiful castle in England I always felt the urge to include a drawing of it in my portfolio. I visited it many times and attended a private birthday party at the castle in 2014. I decided on the iconic view from across the moat looking towards the main building. I was very happy with the result and it has been one of my favorite drawings. The original drawing was approx. 56cm x 36cm (22” x 14”) Total drawing time was about 85 hours.
