The subject is a ruined monastery founded in 1136 by Cistercian monks. There are a number of Scottish kings and nobles buried at the abbey. It is probably, most famously known for it being the resting place of the heart of Robert the Bruce. Architecturally, it is considered one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in the country.
