LOCATION & HISTORY
Great Coxwell Barn is a Medieval tithe barn at the edge of the village of Great Coxwell, which is about 9 miles from the town of Swindon, Wiltshire. It dates from around 1292 and since 1956 has been in the care of the National Trust. It is a Grade 1 listed building.

THE DRAWING: Artist’s Note
The beautiful wooden beams supporting the roof of this barn are what decided me to make this drawing. The complex nature of the wooden structure is astonishing considering the date of the barn. I felt it was a challenge I could not resist!! I have never actually been to the building and drew it totally from a photograph I found in a book. I did all the drawing work at home in my studio, as I was overseas on an engineering project at the time. The drawing is mostly in pen & ink but with some pencil work and the duration was around 65 hours.
